Damien Jurado - Caught In The Trees

Damien Jurado’s album Caught In The Trees comes out September 9th on Secretly Canadian. Another musician whom I’ve kept up with for many years, acquiring everything he does. Listen to the song “Gillian Was A House” below.

Caught In the Trees marks the dawn of a new era for Damien Jurado. It may not be a huge departure from some of his past albums musically, but lyrically Jurado has taken a giant leap forward and there is no turning back.

Corey Arnold - Photography

Corey Arnold is a photographer and Alaskan crab fisherman.  During October, January and February he can (or cannot) be found aboard the F/V Rollo in the Bering Sea.  The rest of the year is packed with travel, gallery exhibitions, magazine and ad photography assignments with a bit of backyard gardening, cat maintenance, and skateboarding in Portland, Oregon.”

Daniel Shea - Photography

I like the way Daniel Shea documents things, in the not always so obvious ways. I love his Baltimore project (and not just because The Wire.)

Land Of Talk - Some Are Lakes

This is the first single off the new Land Of Talk album - Some Are Lakes out on Saddle Creek October 7th.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Elizabeth Powell set about making an album that could encompass a great deal with very little, an aesthetic in stark contrast to the orchestral pop and digi-tweaked indie chic. With bassist Chris McCarron and drummer Andrew Barr (The Slip), the band set up in an old converted church outside of Montreal and recorded 9 songs with the helping hands of Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). The tenth and final track “Troubled” was recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, at Vernon’s parents’ home.”

Carlo Van de Roer - Photography

Carlo Van de Roer’s Orbs Project is his newest work in progress. On top of the photos, he is screen printing a single opaque circle which adds a magical element that I really like. You can view them here. I first discovered him via 20×200 when they were selling prints from his Swim series.

Visit Carlo’s site.

The Wire - Season 5

I didn’t understand why everyone was so into The Wire. I tried to watch it the summer of 2006 but it was on a small TV and it was 100 degrees outside, just couldn’t get into it. I tried again 2 years later and made it through the first season thankfully. So start it up, after you get through the first 5-6 episodes you really get it. You won’t be able to stop.

Get the Season 5 DVD at Amazon.

Mount Eerie - Lost Wisdom

I’ve bought and collected everything Phil Elverum has ever done. Even the weirdest of The Microphones albums have some how been listened to.

Lost Wisdom by Mt. Eerie, his newest offering, will be in stores Oct. 7th, 2008 out on his label P.W. Elverum & Sun. Lost Wisdom has Julie Doiron on it. I also have everything she’s done. So this is a total all star album for me.

Here’s Mount Eerie  - “With My Hands Out” (that has been redone on the new record):
