The Weekly Check In - with Cole Gerst

(This is the Weekly Check In here on Rubin Recommends. With everyone being so busy, it’s fun to get a quick update from them and what they’ve been up to… short and sweet.)

Another artist I was introduced to by Little Paper Planes and was INSTANTLY into everything he does after I found out he designed a Knapsack record cover. I don’t see Cole that often, mainly when he drops off prints at the house. He’s probably one of the busiest people I know.

You can keep up with him on his website http://option-g.com

RR: What are you currently working on or just finished that you’re excited about?

Gerst: I just did a skateboard for Riviera skateboards. You can see it here. Also I’m finishing up a video for the band, The Submarines. It should be done around May 15th. It’s live action mixed with animation.

I’m still working on my cartoon, Yung Yeti, for the Sundance Channel, that should air this Summer.

OH really excited about working for a short cartoon for Nickelodeon’s Yo Gabba Gabba show. Other than that just some illustration and drawing etc. Recently finished posters for Death Cab for Cutie and Swervedriver

Also check out http://artforemptywalls.com this month I have some drawings for sale.

RR: Where have you traveled so far this month?

Gerst: I’ve been trying not to travel much on purpose for awhile. Last year I was gone at least 6 months out of the year and I’m trying to be more productive and sit tight. I’ve only been to Atlanta for work and some local trips. I’m going on an artist tour this summer to Japan and probably China. Oh I did go to Santa Fe briefly.

RR: What’s your favorite music right now?

Gerst: Liking the new Nada Surf, The Submarines, and Holy Fuck.

RR: Best food you’ve had in your neighborhood lately or while you were traveling?

Gerst: Fatty’s in Eagle Rock, CA is my new favorite restaurant. Vegetarian/Vegan place. It’s not new. I just put it at #1 for now.

RR: Anything Else You Want To Mention?

Gerst: My mom just randomly sent me Stefan Sagmeister’s book, Things I Have Learned In My Life So Far. Thanks Mom!
